Do you know where your going? Do you know how your going to get there? What path will you take? If you don’t know the answers to these questions, how will you know when you get there? Or more importantly, how will you get there if you don’t have a road map and a plan for getting there? If you are a genuinely success-oriented individual, then you must have goals and a game plan. Without them, your just fooling around. Achievers and leaders have goals.
There are short term goals which are generally less than one year in duration and long-term goals which are usually longer. Years ago, Jim Rohn gave some guidance for determining your long-term goals. He said you need to ask yourself the following five questions:
- What do I want to do?
- What do I want to be?
- What do I want to see?
- What do I want to have?
- Where do I want to go?
For each of these questions, write down several long-term goals. As you think about these, just allow your mind to flow and dream. Come up with three to six ideas for each category. Don’t worry about specifics or “how to” at this point. Just keep coming up with ideas. Make sure you are writing down the ideas so you don’t forget and they will move to the forefront of your mind. As you review your list, write down next to each idea how long you think it will take to accomplish that particular goal. Use 1, 3, 5, and 10 years as your time frames.
Keep working on these goals and their time frames until you have a fairly even distribution between time frames. Select four goals from each of the four time frames which will give you sixteen separate goals. Think of all the questions you need to ask and answer to be able to see your goal with absolute clarity. Write all these questions and information down.
For you to be motivated to achieve any goal, you have to have a powerful reason for accomplishing it. Why do you want to achieve your goals? Write these reasons down for each goal that you want to achieve. After you gain clarity and a strong reason why you want to achieve a certain goal, you need to keep reviewing where you are in the progress toward achievement of these goals. The most important part in achievement is the ability to persevere. Remember goal achievement and success in life is a continuous, lifelong process. Just keep reviewing, adjusting and moving along the path you set for yourself. You can do it!
Have an awesome day.
