Keys To Discipline

In his book, Leading An Inspired Life, Jim Rohn says there are three keys to discipline.

  1. Awareness of the need for and the value of discipline, especially the discipline to make the necessary changes. Whatever change you want to make, you need to ask yourself some questions. What will it take? What must I do to make the necessary changes to accomplish what I want? What must I become to get all I want from life?
  2. Willingness to be disciplined. Even more important than willing is an eagerness to maintain your discipline deliberately, wisely, and consistently. It doesn’t sound right, but you have to want to be disciplined. It doesn’t mean you always have to enjoy discipline, but you must want to be disciplined.
  3. Commitment to master the circumstances of your daily life. Life has a tendency to get in the way if we let it. How we manage and master life’s circumstances is critical to maintaining discipline. You need to be able to see and seize the opportunities that are good, as well as the opportunities that are hidden in misfortune.

Discipline offers many benefits but probably the most important is what it does for your mind-set. When you follow a discipline, it makes you feel better about yourself. You heard me say before that small disciplines lead to big disciplines and even the smallest discipline can have a very positive effect on your attitude. Each time we start and finish a new discipline, our self-esteem surges.

Jim said, Discipline is a continuing process that brings all the good things in life. Anyone can start the process, so start the process. Begin a new habit, no matter how small it is. Size doesn’t matter. What matters is whether you start or not and whether or not you continue.

Have an awesome day and live life with passion.
