Diminishing Intent

Self-discipline is an act of cultivation. It requires you to connect today’s actions to tomorrow’s results. There’s a season for sowing a season for reaping. Self-discipline helps you know which is which.–Gary Ryan Blair

When you live a life of discipline, it requires that you develop your ability to act. If you don’t act when the idea is fresh and the emotion is high, there’s a pretty good chance that you won’t act on it at all. Think about something you’ve thought about doing or wanted to accomplish. Think of the times you didn’t take action and what was the final outcome? I think you will find if you didn’t act quickly, then chances are you didn’t implement the idea before it faded away.

Jim Rohn called this the Law of Diminishing Intent. You intend to take action when the idea strikes you. You intend to do something when your emotion is high. If you don’t act on the intention and get into action fairly soon, you start to lose the urgency. Within a short period of time, the intention starts to disappear and eventually, it’s gone.

I see this happen all the time in my marketing company. We share a opportunity to change the financial future for someone and their family. Ninety percent of the time, they see it and want to get started. For many, they want to think about it and most of the time, when someone does that, they lose the vision they saw in the first place. Within a short period of time, the little voice has even talked them out of proceeding. They suffer from the Law of Diminishing Intent.

The only remedy for this is to take action. Napoleon Hill said, Successful people make decisions quickly and change decisions slowly. T. Harv Ecker said, Successful people have a philosophy of Ready, Fire, Aim. The point is if you don’t develop the ability to take action, you’ll miss some great opportunities and the value of discipline. Discipline creates self-worth or self-esteem. A lack of discipline erodes our self-esteem. Start with small disciplines and get into action. Make a commitment to discipline yourself so you can achieve your dreams and celebrate your successes.

Have an awesome day and live life with passion.
