As I have said before failure is an essential part of success. Really successful people have learned to embrace failure as a friend and not foe. The only real way to get ahead is to fail early and fail often. If we have the right attitude about failure, we will look at adversity and failure as one step closer to success or fulfilling our dreams. With the right attitude, every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit. Psychologist Dr. Joyce Brothers stated, “The person interested in success has to view failure as a healthy, inevitable part of the process of getting to the top.”
Adversity develops many benefits. Adversity creates resilience or our ability to bounce back. Twice in my career, I have been let go. The first time was extremely difficult, the second time, I was able to look at it as a blessing much more quickly and the benefits that came as a result. Adversity develops maturity and wisdom. Most of the time we don’t learn much from our successes, however, we can develop great wisdom and character in overcoming adversities. Adversity usually opens the door to greater opportunities and it also prompts us to be more creative and innovative. For successful people or people on the path of success, adversity can be a great motivator. The reason I started my marketing company was primarily because I needed to find another way to earn more income because of the economy. This economy is a great example of many of us dealing with adversity and setbacks, particularly in out financial lives.
I work with a lot of people in my marketing company and I get to experience all kinds of people. People from all walks of life and backgrounds. I have watched this past 2 years how people react to adversity and for many adversity gets the better of them. In others words, they don’t become more resilient, or mature, they don’t develop wisdom and character, and the door for greater opportunities never really opens. On the other hand, people that have a strong desire to find or stay on the path to success do develop these benefits of adversity and the doors of opportunities are always opening up for them. Which path do you want to be on? Do you view adversity and failure as a friend or foe?
Have an awesome day.
