Back in approximately 2003, Tim McGraw sang a song called “Live like you were dying.” I remember when I first heard this song, it brought tears to my eyes. Everyone has their own idea of what it means to live like you were dying, but for me it means that everyday is a blessing from God and none of us can expect more than just today. For me that means to live a life filled with passion and purpose. For me it means to work hard, play hard, love life and people, and be thankful and grateful for the many blessings I have.
The story is about a man in his early forties that gets some bad news. As the news sinks in, he starts to realize that this might be the end. When asked what’d you do, he says, I went sky diving, mountain climbing, and riding a bull. He loved deeper, spoke sweeter, and gave forgiveness he’d been denying. Then he said, “One day I hope you get a chance to live like you were dying.” He goes on to say that he finally became the husband that most the time he wasn’t, a friend a friend would like to have, and he took some time to go fishin. And finally he read the good book and took a long hard look at what he’d do if he could do it all again….and then. Like tomorrow was a gift, and you’ve got eternity to think of what you did with it…What did you do with it…What did I do with it?
I know everyone of us have big, beautiful, impossible dreams that we keep tucked away. Most of us think there are so many things that stand in our way of fulfilling our dreams, wishes, hopes, and desires. We think it’s too late, too hard, too crazy, just not possible. So most of the time, we don’t share those dreams with others because we don’t really believe they’re possible. The first step to change that is to tell others about our dreams. This gives them voice, substance and makes them real.
Share your dreams with someone today and then just GO. Get a move on!
Have an incredible day and live life like you were dying.
